Christopher Thomas - Partner Solicitor at Fitzhugh Gates

Chris qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and joined Fitzhugh Gates in 2004, becoming a partner in 2008.

Chris is based in our Brighton office and advises on a range of private client issues: Will drafting, powers of attorney, probate, trusts and capital taxes planning. He is a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners and the Law Society’s Private Client section.

Whilst Chris has considerable experience in complex inheritance tax planning, having acted for a number of high net worth individuals, he especially enjoys helping clients of modest means to plan their affairs and reduce or eliminate their exposure to inheritance tax.

His clear communication style and patience are popular with his clients, many of whom are elderly. He speaks regularly at Seminars on the benefits of obtaining timely legal advice and planning ahead. Chris is also a trustee of Martlets Hospice, which provides care to those living through terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove.

For those who have not done so, Chris also has a passion for ensuring that clients who genuinely can not get out to see a solicitor, because of age or frailty, are not ‘disenfranchised’ and wherever possible he will arrange to visit them at home.
